It takes a lot to host a contest like this, from maintaining the website to running the event. Every little bit helps.

L.L. McKinney
Laura Heffernan
Jamie Corrigan
Kimberly Vanderhorst

Looking for specific guidance from awesome people in the online writing community? We have a PAGE organized by topic just for that.

L.L. McKinney

Pitch Slam Creator

L.L. McKinney lives the single life in Kansas City, surrounded by more nieces and nephews than she knows what to do with. She spends her weekends watching Saturday morning cartoons and defending her crown as the Mario Kart queen. When she’s pretending to be a grownup, she plays the part of freelance writer, published poet, and an active member of the writing community via social media outlets (which is a fancy way of saying she’s addicted to Twitter). She also enjoys long walks on the beach, piña coladas, and getting caught in the rain. Elle is represented by Melissa Nasson of Rubin Pfeffer Content.

Laura Heffernan

Pitch Slam Host

Laura Heffernan is living proof that watching too much TV can pay off: AMERICA’S NEXT REALITY STAR, the first book in the REALITY STAR series, is coming from Kensington’s Lyrical Press on March 7, 2017. When not watching total strangers participate in arranged marriages, drag racing queens, or cooking competitions, she enjoys travel, baking, board games, helping with writing contests, and seeking new experiences. She lives in the Northeast with her amazing husband and two furry little beasts. Laura is represented by Michelle Richter at Fuse Literary. Add AMERICA’S NEXT REALITY STAR to your Goodreads shelves by clicking the book icon below.

Kimberly Vanderhorst

Pitch Slam Host

Kimberly Vanderhorst is a spec-fic author who cherishes a love for all things strange and beautiful. She started out as a slush reader in the first Pitch Slam and worked her way up to Host by being both generally and specifically AWESOME. Other claims to fame include running Prism Editing, and serving on the committees for the annual LDStorymakers Conference and The Whitney Awards program. Despite being a city girl with a tendency to cuss a lot, Kimberly is married to an LDS minister and lives in rural northern Canada. There, she helps raise her four lovely daughters while pretending not to be afraid of the neighbour’s chickens.

Jamie Corrigan

Pitch Slam Host

Jamie Corrigan lives in Texas with her husband. When she’s not being a house wife she’s busy writing or playing games with her hubby. (Final Fantasy XIII/XIII-2/XIII-3 anyone?) She grew up loving music and books and dreamed of becoming a singer or author. Her writing style ranges from fantasy to contemporary, but it always has a touch of grit mixed with wit and a dash of southern flare. While she writes mainly Young Adult, she’ll read anything from MG to Adult. (She may read some Picture Books too. Shhh.) Jamie has been with Pitch Slam from the start and has fallen in love with helping her fellow authors shape their craft.

Our Purpose:

PITCH SLAM is an annual contest unlike any other, where query-ready authors can receive feedback on their work, and Revise and Resubmit their entries before the final round. Captains—with the help of a panel of judges—select entries based on craft, marketability, and agent wish lists to form Teams that go head-to-head in a request frenzy! Our 2016 contest season is over, but we’ll be back next year with more geektastic fun! For those looking for our secret team’s entries, Team Bounty Hunter can be found HERE.
